No Ro whilece Found in Young Goodman embrown Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his short story, Young Goodman Brown, generates a relationship in aspire contrast with that of a true romance among the roles of Faith and Young Goodman Brown. Whereas, a true romance is the ideal romance, exhibiting virtuous aspects such as trust, as easy as a burning passion and an undying love for one another. The relationship which Young Goodman creates between himself and Faith is one that is unresponsive , and is based on distrust and a willingness on his part to abandon her. Consequently, as far as passion and desire are concerned, someone quickly call Dr. poignancy because this marriage is in trouble. After Faith reads Goodman not to depart that night, pleading, pray tarry with me this night, dear husband, of all nights in the year, he answers her saying , my go must be done. He then questions the sincerity of her peculiar plea asking whether she doubts him. Since when is it such a farfetche d request for a wife to ask her husband for company on a given night? Does this request signify a deficiency of trust in her husband? If anything, it illustrates a lack of self confidence in himself as well as a lack of trust in her. In addition, after departing his wife, Goodman Brown states to the mysterious man he meets in the forest, that Faith kept him back awhile. This means that although both his wife, Faith, and his own faith delay him, they cannot stop him and thus arent more important than committing this deed. Furthermore, in that respect is no evidence of his trust for her in the marriage. Immediately after witnessing a pink ribbon fluttering down onto the branch of a tree, Young Goodman Brown cries out, my Faith is gone By this statement, Goodman means that his wife has physically gone over to the devil and that his faith in her is gone. This, thereby proves the absence of trust in his wife. When he does see Faith in the forest, he yells to her to resist the devil, but is unsure of her ultmate decision. Therefore, upon his return to town, Hawthorne writes after that night, he shrank from the bosom of Faith.

An Army of One: Me. Essay -- Psychology, Self-esteem, Generation Me

Feeling good about oneself is an inherently good thing however when this is intensified so severely that it becomes the center on of everyday life, complications and consequences may occur. Jean Twenge tries to warn todays Generation Me about the dangers of their obsession with the self in her piece, An Army of One Me. This desire to come along out for only the individual has dramatic effects on the direction of todays society. What has also evolved out of this self adoring society is a seemingly endless need for argument, especially in the educational field, an issue addressed by Debora Tannen in her essay, The Roots of Debate in Education and the fancy of Dialogue. Of course, no researchers or educational experts expected the negative results such as narcissism and argumentative culture that followed from these teaching methods. These are unintended consequences and displaced risks, just as the types addressed in Edward Tenners, Another Look Back, and A Look Ahead but applied to a different subject. In effect, one riddle causes another as an excess of self-esteem more often than not leads to narcissism. That development of narcissism promotes an argumentative culture in which everyone thinks they are right because presumption in oneself is far too high. Revenge effects may include constant irritability and excessive sensitivity, a lack of obtaining a good education, or in some cases pure laziness. Through a flawed system of education and the development of Generation Me, the attitude of the United States has unintentionally drifted towards narcissism and discontent. In many ways, people who are incapable of accepting criticism have developed narcissistic tendencies. Graduate students, discussed by Tannen were almos... ...the flip side of intensity (Tenner 709). self-love is this revenge and it has negatively impacted education and society in general. By aiming too much at self-esteem educators have changed the way Generation Me children mani festation at themselves. They act the way they do because they do not know any other way of thinking. The progression of US society has become progressively more individualistic every generation. Twenges analysis of Generation Me accurately depicts the way people today are more irritable and inclined to entreat when their points are challenged. Similarly, the argument culture discussed by Tannen has taken over the American education system in part due to this rise in narcissism. general it is clear while one was not meant to lead to another, the argument culture and narcissism are not only related, but they unintentionally grow polish off of one another.

Through this theme Shelley draws us in to accept that misguided knowledge is more tragic than no knowledge at all.If we watch modern scientific developments (IVF and human cloning), the ethical implications as identified in Frankenstein, are just as relevant today. The disregard for basic human rights and decency is a theme that emerges throughout the novel. Justice, parental responsibility, oppression, the right to education and companionshi p are all addressed by Shelley. The injustice of Justines execution the rejection of children by their parents (Justine, Safie and the Monster) the Monsters desire for love and affection, are all emotive issues to which the reader can connect.As a consequence of the authors use of recognizable themes we are drawn in and find ourselves accepting the implausible context in which they are set. Shelleys characters lend themselves to the romantic and gothic genres. Their characterisation is stereotyped, matte and largely undeveloped. These characters serve not deflect us from their fictionality but compliment instead the emotional, tragic and fatalistic tone of the novel. Justine, Elizabeth, Safie and Agatha are reflections of the virtuous woman, biologically bran-new as they have not been tainted by sexual experiences or motherhood.The Monster by contrast is not a fully formed separate but a debasement of the human form. Shelley incorporates other characters not for the purpose of r ealism but to perform a functional role within the novel. The well-nigh significant of these characters is William. Nurse Ratched is able to smell out the fear of her patients and put it to use (17) As the novel progresses, we similarly learn that Ratcheds powers within the ward extend to ludicrous measures as she is able to order harming of the relatively disruptive patients, which contributes to her extensive amount of power withing the ward. In her own realm, Ratched is viewed as a very powerful individual, and the patients arrive to abide by her rules.Harding, a patient, explains, We are victims of a matriarchy here, my friend, and the doctor is just as helpless against it as we are (54). This sentence is remarkably significant. It accredits the nurse as a dominant character in the hospital, and it also establishes the idea that the patients are not the only ones controlled by her, but the doctors as well. At times, Ratched refers to the sexuality of the men in the institute, making them inferior because of their inabilities.Ratcheds strength, and matriarchial character as a woman directly contradict the assumed characteristics associated with women those of femininity and gentility. This contradiction is established in a way many by critics that look at the surface of the topic as a sexist description. In multiple occurrences throughout the progress of the novel, Ratcheds female characteristics are exaggeratively described by the patients such as McMurphy. McMurphy describes Ratched as having too red lipstick and the toobig boobs. (43) and as a a bitch and a buzzard and a ballcutter. Therefore, Ratched directly opposes the traditional gentle view of women as a matriarch but is given over-exaggerated female characteristics. Keseys purpose in creating this contrast between a stereotypical woman and and an ideal woman that is independent and strong is to establish the unsuccessful attempt at triumph of the ideal strong woman.The unsuccessful attempts of Ratched are depicted by her failure to meet the assumed role of being a nurse that consists of helping and healing her patients. Instead of helping, Ratched proceeds to make the state and situation of her patients worse and worse as she puts them down about their inabilities and maintains total control over them. Ratched is even viewed as evil. McMurphy explains, No, that nurse aint some kinda monster chicken, buddy, what she is is a ball-cutter. Ive seen a thousand of em, old and young, men and women.Seen em all over the country and in the homespeople who try to make you weak so that they can get you to toe the line, to follow their rules, to live manage they want you to. If youre up against a guy who wants to win by making you weaker instead of making himself stronger, then watch for his knee, hes gonna go for your vitals. And thats what that old buzzard is doing. (58) McMurphy also refers to Ratched as impregnable and this sets her apart from the typical view of a female and the clichd mother/whore duality (Quinn) is established in the novel.There is an ambiguity that arises in the course of the novel, and the established dichotomy discussed by Quinn is expanded with a relation of the two parts the matriarch and the whore. Whereas Ratched uses power and control to accomplish her role of care and fails, the two whores introduced by McMurphy gain the trust and sympathy of the reader. They are viewed positively and as kind hearted by the patients in the institution. An excellent comparison captures the perception of the two figures Strong women are evil and emasculating (Quinn) and The women viewed positively in the novel are the kind-hearted whores whom Mac introduces to th e men and the harmonic and very tiny Japanese nurse who works on the Disturbed ward. (Quinn)Through this direct comparison of the strong woman that is apart from a typical figure and the stereotypical woman that performers an actdirectly associated with women, one can see that the typical woman is able to do what the other cannot gain the union of the male. While Ratched hides her female characteristics by wearing a white coat, the whores display their female attributes, and gain a positive view from the society made up of the hospital. McMurphys prior comment of Ratched being impregnable is linked to this comparison, since sexuality is a trait apparently missing from Ratched.Ken Kesey depicts the failure of a non-typical female figure to accomplish her goals as a dominating powerful figure by describing Ratched as evil, and comparing her to whores, who are viewed as kind hearted. This defiant comparison is uncommon since typically whores are viewed as a malignant part of society and nurses are viewed as purgatory. As a complete opposite, the whores are able to help amend the feelings of the patients, whereas Nurse Ratched fails miserably to accomplish her duty and even worsens the situation of her patients. Through the development of the female characters in the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Kesey is able to convince the reader that the stereotypical woman is able to successfully help society, while the unusual matriarchal female is unable to fulfill her duties by gaining control and exercising domination.Works Cited(MLA Format)Boardman, Michael M. The commission is at present supporting 7 Educational Media Research Centers (EMRC / EMMRC) and 8 auditory sensation-Visual Research Centers (AVRS) are being supported for preparation of personnel and production of software. In order to make distance learning more effective and bring topper teachers in the country within the reach of all section of students including semi-urban and rural students.Through EDUSAT the University Grants Commission (UGC) expands the educational facilities to Universities and Colleges located in remote areas, A cademic Staff Colleges, Media centers etc. GURU NANAK DEV UNIVERSITY Guru Nanak Dev University is the first University of India to have EDUSAT network at University campus with 120 interactive terminals at receiving stations to set up at different instruments. The special feature of EDUSAT being installed at this university would have two-way communication. Both Video and Audio would make virtual class-room a real life situation.This university was established on 1st may 1981 downstairs UGC scheme. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING (NCERT) The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was set up by the Government of India in 1961 as an autonomous organization registered under(a) Societies Registration Act (Act vingt-et-un of 1860) to advise and assist the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and Departments of Education in States / UTs in formulation and implementation of their policies and major programmes in the fi eld of education, particularly for qualitative onward motion of school education.In addition to research, development, training, extension, publication and dissemination activities, the NCERT acts as a major agency for implementing the bilateral Cultural Exchange Programmes with other countries in the field of school education. The NCERT also interacts and works in collaboration with international organizations, visiting foreign experts and delegations and offers various training facilities to educational personnel from developing countries.NCERT expends its reach through EDUSAT to NCERT centers across the country, Central Tibetan School, National Institutes of Open Learning, Kendriya Vidhyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Samitis and etc. ALL INDIA COUNCIL FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION (AICTE) The statutory All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established for priggish planning & coordinated development of technical education system throughout the country.AICTE was sent up under an ACT in 1987 To provide for establishment of an All India council for Technical Education with a view to the proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout the country, the promotion of qualitative improvement of such education in relation to planned quantitative growth and the regulation and proper maintenance of norms and standards in the technical education system and for matters connected therewith.AICTE plans to cover Engineering Colleges and Institutes of Technology across the country under EDUSAT. CONCLUSION The scope of EDUSAT is to make distance learning more effective and bring best teachers in the country within the reach of all section of students including semi-urban and rural students.
